Thanks to the reruns of 1950s sitcoms, there is a belief that everything was simple and sweet during those times. Whistling in the Dark by Leslie Kagen disabuses the reader of that notion. The story is told by a very authentically voiced 10 year old Sally O'Malley. There are mysteries surrounding the adults in her life. As Sally attempts to make sense of the unknown, the reader will smile in recognition of the child's thinking process. Whistling in the Dark is a very good story that will have you thinking about its characters and time period long after the last page is turned.
