This moving film should be on everyone's holiday favorites list. It's the story of two very different men (think "The Odd Couple" before they met) who unexpectedly get caught traveling together, and drive each other crazy because of transportation mishaps that might keep them from getting home for Thanksgiving. What could have been a "cute little film" combines memorable, laugh-out-loud humor, and poignant moments rare in smaller-budget movies.

It's a testament to the acting skills of Steve Martin, who plays a snobbish ad executive, and the late John Candy, whose character makes a living selling shower curtain rings, that give this movie a surprising amount of depth. (The shower curtain rings, in fact, play a hilarious and crucial role in getting the two on the road again.)

If you've somehow missed this gem, race out and buy it today. It's one of those rare movies that will brighten your mood -- any time of the year.
