Ah, the joy of finding a literary book to read! I?ve been wondering what happened to the ?good? books like Cold Mountain, The Lovely Bones, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay and The Kite Runner, just to mention a few. Finally, another one!
This is a fascinating look at a familiar subject (privileged kids in prep school) through new eyes and with a nicely unconventional approach. The writing pops with a very refreshing, heady effervessence. I am nearing the end of the book, and have that oh-so-rare feeling of wanting to put on the brakes so as not to be finished with it just yet.
The references that are scattered throughout the book staggered me until I realized that many of them are brilliant inventions of the author. Ms. Pessl has made a stunning debut, and I look forward to seeing where she goes from here.
