Overall I really liked this book. I was expecting something very different when I checked this book out of the library. I was expecting a semi-scholarly book written by Al Gore, but when I opened up the book it was mostly pictures. The book starts out with a story about when Al was a young kid and she read this book about how important the environment is. He would remember that book his whole life. I believe that this book was the outcome of that impression. Many individuals are unaware of the consequences that global warming has on the world. I started reading this book with a fairly good idea about what complications global warming presents, but even I learned something. One of the best things about this book was the pictures and diagrams. Every single page has one or the other along with a short paragraph. It is easy to read a book and not take in anything that is in the book. The fact that he provided pictures along with the text allows the readers, not only to obtain knowledge about the subject, but to see how these consequences are affecting and will increasingly affect the world. This book may have implied that it is for kids to learn about global warming, but I feel that it is actually for everyone who does not know about global warming.
A couple of things I wished he had included in the book were some numbers on just how much fossil fuels were burning and the rates we are burning it at. I think this would have been a good set up for his ending so he could have said, by changing an incandescent light bulb to a florescent light bulb you could save this many pounds of coal from being burnt. It would have put into perspective just how big the impact of going “green” really would be, especially in America.
