I must disclose that I have not actually read this book yet,but will be putting it on my Christmas Wish List. I had the good fortune to hear the author speaking on Philadelphia's WHYY/PBS radio station program RADIO TIMES on Thursday 11/16/06 and he impressed me greatly with his knowledge gained from both academic AND experiential research. He was most gracious while being very informative in an entertaining fashion and with full disclosure that he sort of stumbled upon this bird and subsequently, the topic that he speaks of quite authoritatively. Self-admittedly,not a "bird person" or even an animal activist of any sort, but it seems that while indulging in his exhaustive research [which also included joining ranks with the varied community consumed with all things 'pigeon'],he has come to be a champion of this much maligned creature. He almost made me want to get a pigeon as a pet, despite the fact that I already have 2 cats. I'm holding off on that decision as I'm not so sure the cats would agree.
