CUTTING FOR STONE was my favorite book of 2011. Despite the pain and suffering, of very real historical events chronicled in this novel, that I felt keenly as I read this work of historical fiction, I was at the same time rejoicing to feel the love and loyalty and sacrifice these characters displayed toward one another. A triumph of the human spirit and celebration of all our shared humanity -- that's CUTTING FOR STONE.
