Jump at Home Grade 3: Worksheets for the Jump Math Program (Jump) by John Mighton
Jump at Home Grade 3: Worksheets for the Jump Math Program (Jump)

3girlsmama, June 24, 2013

As a self-titled "over-schooler," a mom who regularly supplements her kids' public school education with work at home, I highly recommend this whole series. Please note that they are labled a grade ahead, so that Grade 1 is the equivalent of Kindergarten and most kids would be able to do this Grade 3 book in 2nd grade. These books teach each concept using a step-by-step process that prevents kids from developing holes in their understanding. They are also great for those parents who have forgotten how to do math. Some of the work is intentionally repetitive to provide ample practice with new concepts. Some families may choose to have kids do fewer problems or the most difficult ones on the page once the concept is mastered.

Shout Her Lovely Name by Natalie Serber
Shout Her Lovely Name

3girlsmama, January 1, 2013

Natalie Serber's "Shout Her Lovely Name" is such a delight that I read it twice in 2012. With so much to read, it is rare that I ever read anything a second time, but this is truly worth it. Serber's characters are raw and real and beautiful. Meet her characters and be changed. She treats her characters, troubled and challenged as they are, with such compassion that even the most painful stories will fill you with hope.
