Loosely based around the rooms of Bryson's historic house, this book ranges entertainingly -- and informatively -- over such topics as the Crystal Palace in Victorian England, the secret lives of servants, what men in the 18th century wore under their wigs, and why Darwin was really, really sick of molluscs.
Finally, a vampire novel to rival Stoker's Dracula in terms of its complexity and interpretive richness.
