The Orchardist by Amanda Coplin
The Orchardist

Alan Soles, January 21, 2013

This book starts out very well. It sets up the life of the orchardist and offers a direction for the story that appears to be deep and intense. The scene where an unwelcome visitor comes to the orchard is one of the best set scenes I have ever read. Then the book sadly peters out and flounders around until it's conclusion. I was forever wondering what is the message or meaning of this book. For me it became a dry litany of the lives of the orchardist and his loved ones.

The Twin by Gerband Bakker

Very quiet, understated book. No high climax, no formula... just a beautiful character study. This is a book to savor.
