Ray, has written a surreal, psychedelic masterpiece. If I thought Salvidor Dali and Cezanne and Picasso had a three-way love child this would be his life story. Everyone must read it.
This tome has a lot of useful knots. It is a great source for photos of them but has some errors as well. It's not a book I'd recommend for the beginner but if you own a copy of Ashley's Book of Knots and want more reference information for your personal knotting library this is probably almost as good as Ashley but only if you're knot a beginner.

The "Bible" of knot tying books. This reference is a must have for any and all knotting enthusiasts. The most current edition was updated by Mr. Budworth with the help of Ashley's daughter in the early-mid 1990s. It has everything that is even remotely useful and many knots that are just fun to know as well. It's a big book that is hard to carry around effectively so I recommend it as a desk reference not a field or backpack book.
Great portable book on knots. Covers all major knot groups with emphasis on practicality and usefulness. I recommend this book for anyone who needs help learning knots or a refresher to remember a step or two. Color photos are excellent. I particularly like the section on whippings as it gives more than the standard everyday whipping including two sailmaker's whippings that require a sewing palm. Thanks to the author for the good job putting this text together.
