Reformation Study Bible-Esv
Reformation Study Bible-Esv

Allan, January 4, 2007

Built around the text of the English Standard Bible (an excellent up-to-date literal translation with fine references and footnotes of its own) this is THE study Bible for serious students of Covenant Theology. The list of editors and contributors is a veritable Who's Who of present-day scholars of the theology of the Reformation. With detailed, thorough introductions to every section, and each book, of the Bible, plus abundant, clear footnotes and numerous sidebar articles on key topics, this volume is suitable for scholar, student, or layperson-- a feast for the hungry mind and heart.

Shepherding a Child's Heart (Handbook Only) by Tedd Tripp
Shepherding a Child's Heart (Handbook Only)

Allan, January 4, 2007

Tripp is a Christian educator and parent, writing to and for Christian parents-- parents not interested in bringing up their child(ren) to love and serve Jesus Christ will find this book an utter disappointment.

Its overall message is simple:
1. Love and serve the Lord with all your heart and soul and mind and strength, and your example will be foundational in teaching your child's heart.
2. Train your child as the Bible commands, and God will not fail you.
3. Never forget that it is the motive that establishes the behavior, not vice versa.
4. Both parent and child have begun life as sinners; each must learn his need of the Savior...

Shepherding is not great writing, but it IS gifted writing from a gifted and wise man. Tripp's use of repetition would never pass a freshman English course, but it serves well to keep the message simple and at the forefront of the reader's thought. It is an easy read about one of life's most serious and difficult tasks. I thank God for it.
