The Blood of Olympus (The Heroes of Olympus #5) by Rick Riordan
The Blood of Olympus (The Heroes of Olympus #5)

Amy Dao, October 9, 2014

'Atlas't! The world's fate was in the hands of 7 demigods and I could not put this book down until the Earth was put down! Uncle Rick absolutely delivered in this finale to The Heroes of Olympus series. It's definitely a gem to read about Greek Mythology but with delightful references to all the food and places in our modern world. Trust. Loyalty. Friendship. Love. Sacrifice. All these crucial topics were woven together exquisitely to bring the book to a new level and bring a family together from all walks of life. A refreshing read!

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
The Night Circus

Amy Dao, January 1, 2013

Steampunk-magical! The love story between Celia and Marco is built on magical wisps that intertwine in Le Cirque des Rêves, the Circus of Dreams. The magical and emotional bond shown in this novel written by Erin Morgenstern is so captivating that my best friend's wedding is centered on the Night Circus theme. Although this story is very much fantasy, the vivid details from the different tents to the exquisite cuisines of the "midnight dinners" and the scrumptious circus fare make it all so real. The power of will and the mind is very much present in this novel. I like to think of it as a great reminder to readers to keep on entertaining their minds of the impossible...because the impossible can very much become possible and real. This novel also reflects on real life where things happen unexpectedly but always seem to go full circle since of course..."The circus arrives without warning..."

The Mark of Athena (Heroes of Olympus #3) by Rick Riordan
The Mark of Athena (Heroes of Olympus #3)

Amy Dao, October 12, 2012

Riordan has done it again! The Mark of Athena is the third installment in the Heroes of Olympus series and the most suspenseful one yet. Much like Arachne's artful skills, Riordan has weaved another spectacular adventure for Percy and his demigod friends. The Mark of Athena will remind readers how our hearts are just yearning for Percy and Annabeth to finally get their happily ever after. I am a fan of the Harry Potter series too and Riordan just reminds me of how J.K. Rowling tortures Harry Potter and allows readers to read about him dying before reaching his happy ending. I do not intend to give any spoilers (because this book is a must read), but Percy (and Annabeth) are in for a similarly (godly) treat. After finishing the Mark of Athena, readers like me will most definitely be reading it over again to scour for missing clues to what's in store in the fourth installment- The House of Hades.
