Michelle Wildgen: IMG A Few Initial and Not-Comprehensive Meditations on Group Novels

I am a sucker for a book about a group. What reminded me of this was Joanna Smith Rakoff's A Fortunate Age, her homage to Mary McCarthy's endlessly re-readable... Continue »

Diablo Archive by Richard A Knaak
Diablo Archive

If you're a fan of Blizzard Entertainment's award-winning Diablo video game series (with its highly-anticipated third installment, Diablo III, now in development), then this four-book anthology of lore is for you.
It includes, for the first time in print, Demonsbane; previously only available as an e-book.

The Last Patriot by Brad Thor
The Last Patriot

Anakyn, July 4, 2008

Captivating, contemporary thriller somewhat reminiscent of "The Da Vinci Code" in its implications.
Great follow-up to the author's previous book, "The First Commandment."

Love Can Build a Bridge

Anakyn, December 29, 2007

Being a fan of The Judds, I saw this mini-series back in the '90s when it first aired on ABC, and I fell in love even more.
The trials that Diane/Naomi Judd endured in order to keep herself and her children alive while, simultaneously, attempting to live a dream are simply... Amazing. And then to end up, later in life, beating the life-threatening disease which forced her to retire from her dream... I cannot put into words how much I admire this woman.
I taped the series on VHS, and viewed it so often I wore it out, so I am thrilled to see that it is finally available on DVD (although, I will miss the segues leading into and out of the commercial-breaks, if they aren't included on the DVD version -- I'm waiting for it to become available again as it is currently on back-order).
And the autobiography it is based upon, bearing the same title, is even more emotionally-effectual (as the books usually are).

I would urge anyone to pick up both the book and DVD for a truly spirit-lifting experience!
