Flavors of Friuli: A Culinary Journey Through Northeastern Italy by Elisabeth Antoine Crawford
Flavors of Friuli: A Culinary Journey Through Northeastern Italy

Anne Morrow, September 28, 2011

This is a terrific review of the food, the people and the tastes of the Eastern region of Italy. I spend a fair amount of time there every year and she found the places I love, interviewed some of the best cooks, vintners and trattorias in the region. Her photos - all done by the author - are great. She must know the language and relies on that and her knowledge of italian food in Friuli. I give this away whenever I find a Italian food lover

Reading Like a Writer: A Guide for People Who Love Books and for Those Who Want to Write Them (P.S.) by Francine Prose
Reading Like a Writer: A Guide for People Who Love Books and for Those Who Want to Write Them (P.S.)

Anne Morrow, September 27, 2011

Francine Prose works through writing like a reader taking apart word choice, sentences and paragraphs to demonstrate how to strengthen ones prose work. She has a wide knowledge of great literature and includes a great reading list in the final chapter. She draws on these books, great authors and her own years as a writer and teacher to clearly lead a reader to implementing many strong writing elements.

Urban Italian: Simple Recipes and True Stories from a Life in Food by Andrew Carmellini
Urban Italian: Simple Recipes and True Stories from a Life in Food

Anne Morrow, September 23, 2011

We own close to a hundred italian cookbooks - Urban Italian has become one of our favorites and the go to book on the kitchen shelf. Carmellini goes through recipes with good explanations of procedures and ingredients and adapts them to local markets and American kitchens. The text is worth reading beyond the recipes. A great addition to the library.
