I read this book when I was about fifteen years old and it really altered my perceptions of everyday life. Since than, I've come back to the story and other works by the same author multiple times for peace and calm and reassurance in my life. This book is definitely one of my all time favorites and I highly suggest you give it a try.

This is Olsson's second published work to date and it is not a disappointment. While I did enjoy, "Astrid and Veronica" (Sing Me Gentle Songs) more, I found myself immediately transported while reading this novel. Her writing is very lyrical and poetic, a genuine pleasure to read.
The story centers around Adam, a man who stumbles upon a family secret amidst personal hardships. That of his daughter's death. The story is very moving and deeply personal. It's sure to be well received among Olsson's fans, and is definitely worth checking out even if you've never heard of the author.

Beautiful prose. I felt like I was reading poetry, not a novel! The Shan Sa does a masterful historical novel which centers around the historial chinese empress Wu Zhao, known in the book as Heavenlight. The story takes place during the Tang Dynasty and is a remarkable telling of one valiant women who would come to be the first female empress. Though she is not greatly remembered in history, Sa opens the door for a glimpse of this fascinating woman. Highly recommended.

An excellent film. The first major Iranian film to win a prize at any international film festival. This film paved the way for various other Iranian film makers to spread their art. The movie is shot entirely in black and white, set in a village with a limited cast, this film is absolutely extraordinary. Such intensity and power is so rare in film making, I highly suggest this title.

Everything flows gently in this debut novel by Author Linda Olsson. Translated from the original Swedish text, "Astrid and Veronika" is a compelling read which haunts the reader for days afterward. The story is of two women and the internal struggles they face and the journey of overcoming lost past traumas. I randomly picked up this small novel and probably held onto it for a week before I decided to leaf through it. What I found, was a delightful surprise. Fresh and powerful in its storytelling, this is definately an author to keep your eye's on.
