Paul Reid was chosen by an ailing William Manchester to complete his three-volume work on Churchill. Manchester chose his successor well; Reid did a masterful job. I've read a dozens of books about England during World War II, and I found this book to be one of the very best. While I've a few minor quibbles about a few assertions Reid makes (when he fails to provide any documentation for them), these are few indeed. Mostly I was awed by his ability to integrate a vast amount of detailed research into a beautifully-written, entertaining whole.
