The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
The Book Thief

Balletgirl, January 2, 2012

It all started with a book...among other things. Death (the narrator), tells a tale of a little girl , with a hard life, growning up in Nazi Germany. A beautiful piece of fiction, with a treasure trove a characters, and imagery that left me warmed by the vibrancy of life, and with a new perspective on death (and death's messenger, should he exist). Zusak shows that even in the cruelest of circumstances, beauty, love, friendship, and even peace can be found, upheld, and embraced.
