A very detailed and gripping read. Shirer went into the depths and has included so many anecdotes through a first hand report of events. This has got to be the greatest account of the Third Reich that I have read. Only paralleled by Albert Speer's Inside the Third Reich.

I loved the book. It was one of its kind. Bahru Zewde has taken every account into detail and has constructed a highly readable book that focuses on the Making of the modern Ethiopian State through careful analysis of historic events such as the battle of Adwa and the Southern Invasions by Menelik that contrubute so much to the present day Ethiopia
