The Transition Handbook: From Oil Dependency to Local Resilience by Rob Hopkins
The Transition Handbook: From Oil Dependency to Local Resilience

Belly of the Beast, January 4, 2010

This book puts forth the unified field theory of resilience as it pulls together the threads/threats of climate change, peak oil, economic dislocation, and social isolation together to craft a humble response of broad community-driven visioning and action.

It's a trite phrase that you've heard before, but this book really did change my life. The Transition Handbook compelled me to start a Transition Initiative in a place that would perhaps be the last place you would expect it, and I was suprised to find a community of friends who amaze me every day with the depth of their knowledge and passion.

Read the book, then (or for the less sequentially-challenged: at the same time) look for a Transition Initiative in your community and if you don't find one start it up yourself.
