War and Peace (Vintage Classics) by Leo Tolstoy
War and Peace (Vintage Classics)

BonBon46, January 28, 2010

An epic novel of how free will and fate move Tolstoy's three central high-society characters through every experience of life while the Napolean invasion of Russia seeps in and then invades each of their lives. It's like losing a friend to finish this 1,400 page book (Anthony Briggs translation) but at least one can pick it up again and again and again (as I have) to re-read so many truly amazing passages. My husband read W&P as I first read Anna Karenina while vacationing in Mexico, and we both felt such fulfillment to be swept away by these masterpieces while lying under a palapa on a white sandy beach and a warm golden sun overhead. The books made the trip one never to forget.
