Enormous Room (Dover Thrift Editions) by e e cummings
Enormous Room (Dover Thrift Editions)

Catgoil, March 25, 2012

This book read once and only once by me, 30+ years past, is one of the few of my many hundred of reads, that continues to hum within me. Already a fan of his vast array of poetry, I was immensely surprised to discover that e.e.cummings had actually written a book - an autobiography at that. To my even greater amazement, this account was not dry, boring reading, but rather, an exciting page turner. Learning that this favorite poet had been an WWI prisoner by the French, added to my greater respect regarding his skills as a writer.

Turning the pages of the Enormous Room for my second time in over three decades will certainly be a most sumptuous meal for both my mind and soul. Treat yourself as well.

Becoming Jimi Hendrix: From Southern Crossroads to Psychedelic London, the Untold Story of a Musical Genius by Steven Roby and Brad Schreiber
Becoming Jimi Hendrix: From Southern Crossroads to Psychedelic London, the Untold Story of a Musical Genius

Catgoil, December 29, 2010

Though I didn't personally read this book, I'd given it as a gift to a musician friend as a birthday present. Jon has been a guitar player for eons it seems but always feels so 'stuck' having to have to work the regular full-time job to pay the bills; his guitars gathering dust within his home and Jon's heart stuck on low. After receiving this book Jon dialed me up, raving wildly about the 'truth' of Jimi's life, and his own renewed inspiration to band-up and play full time again. I'd no clue this simple gift would so inspire a dear life-long friend and am ever so pleased to have been given the opportunity by Powell's Books to attain a signed edition!
