This Perfect Day, by the author of Rosemary's Baby, couldn't be more different than that popular novel. It's one of the very best books of its kind, an early entry into a genre that has become extremely prevalent in today's market, the dystopian novel. One world run by a single computer ("Uni"), ID bracelets for everyone (written before the days when computer chips could be buried beneath the skin!), and control over each "member"'s life is absolute. One man finds other unsatisfied members and looks toward freedom from Uni's rule. I understand this book is long out of print, and that's a shame. It belongs right up there with 1984 and Brave New World.
