The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom (Toltec Wisdom) by Don Miguel Ruiz
The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom (Toltec Wisdom)

Chad, February 24, 2009

this is a timeless masterpiece and a simple guide to everyday living. if we all worked at following the four agreements as outlined in this easy to read and understand book, the world might be a more compassionate place. i would highly recommend this book to any person and think that it would be great as a junior high or high school textbook. this could also be a great tool for reforming prisoners and other people with troubles. do yourself a favor and read it. then live by it.

Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister by Gregory Maguire
Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister

Chad, February 24, 2009

maguire continuously creates elaborate landscapes of familiar tales, with unimaginable details and lives. "confessions" gives readers a compassionate heart for the ugly stepsisters in this alternate view of a classic tale, Cinderella. this story is based in a different reality, one that follows the harsh tulip trade and decline. if you thought that Cinderella was a saint that sings with the animals in the disney version, maguire will quickly change how you see her, and her ugly stepsisters...
maguire has successfully made it to the top of my favorite authors list.

Son of a Witch: A Novel by Gregory Maguire
Son of a Witch: A Novel

Chad, February 24, 2009

an amazing sequel to "wicked!" i could not put this down. again, maguire paints another descriptive picture of Oz, but this one with an ugly underbelly, a new cast of characters, along with the old, and surprising twists of fate. if you enjoyed "wicked," "son of a witch" will be just as captivating. this book only gets me more excited for "a lion among men," the third book in this series.

Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire
Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West

Chad, February 24, 2009

a great literary piece, just as timeless as the "wizard of oz" film itself. i was captivated from beginning to end and immediately watched the film as soon as i was finished with the book. Oz has never been painted in such a way, revealing a much different landscape with a much harsher reality. maguire has a great writing style and knows how to keep the pages turning. i loved it.
