This book has seen me through breakups, orals, family issues, 4 moves....I can't even count how many times I've come back to it. In addition, she gives great accounts of the people she met and history she witnessed until the age of 30 or so, when she left (then) Rhodesia. If you're interested in the colonial history of Africa, this is also an intelligent and concrete ground level view of events there pre and post-WWII.
