The Savage Detectives by Roberto Bolano
The Savage Detectives

Charles Faulkner, January 1, 2013

This book is the ultimate document of a mysterious and almost lost generation. What happened when this young group of poets and revolutionaries were dispersed to four continents? A great, rambling and tragic comedy of earnestness and youthful brilliance. Read it and learn what can happen to one's origins when they are finally discovered.

Vernon God Little by Dbc Pierre
Vernon God Little

Charles Faulkner, August 4, 2012

One of the funniest books I've ever read. Pierre bravely takes on the aftermath of a terrible tragedy to address issues of race, class, justice, love, sex, media manipulation, opportunism, competence, etc. Often compared to Catcher in the Rye and A Confederacy of Dunces, Vernon God Little is worthy of its place among them.
