This is a darling story about a bright young girl who has trouble fitting into the typical mold. There are several very funny parts and yes, it does tug at the heart strings, but I certainly wouldn't call it depressing. Thought provoking maybe. I like that it isn't saccharine sweet as so many children's books are. Ant comes across a real girl facing the kind of challenges children might actually face at her age.
