I admit I didn't like the Alchemist. Maybe it was the place I was in my life or just the writing style, but I couldn't connect to it. Reading the Witch of Portobello has been life changing. This book awakens ones latent spirituality and desire for harmony with oneself, society, and the goddess. Told through a series of interviews the story chronicles Athena's journey to live authentically.

A remarkable collection of essays speaking about the many virtues of returning to agrarian ethics. Explains agrarianism from a variety of liberal arts, and then shows the ways agrarian values can help environmental and social justice causes. This was such an inspiring book for why farms still matter; for why the preservation rural land is as important as the revitalization of urban and suburban town; why agrarianism cannot either be overly idealized or become marginalized as a "lesser" way of life.

She lives in SE Portland, how great is that? An informative book on everything from baby chicks, and where to get them, to building a coop and getting eggs from brooding hens. And there are pictures of chickens. A wonderful guide to start an urban flock with.
