This is a very very good book that delves into the subjects of faith/belief, love and the act of artistic creation. Set within a suspenseful plot of political turmoil, this novel eloquently illustrates how these interrelated subjects transcend such worldly games as politics, however serious and life threatening they may be.
Brutal and poetic. Beautiful and unflinchingly violent. A mythic tale of the wild west. Cormac McCarthy's masterpiece and one of the greatest American novels--up there for me with Moby Dick.

A thoroughly gripping historical fiction. Delillo has pumped this overdone subject with fresh characters and a plot that seems much more plausible than any others I've encountered. Even though you know how it's going to end it keeps you on the edge of your reading chair waiting to see how it will all come together.

An impressionistic story--nothing is told to you in a direct manner in this, Cormac McCarthy's first novel. Very poetic and dark, like watching a movie through a dirty lens smeared with petroleum that catches the light in flares every now and then. This novel is the primordial stuff from which each of his subsequent books has emerged, containing, as it does, all the core elements that have appeared again and again. I would recommended this book to someone who has read a few of his others first.
