A Hat Full of Sky by Terry Pratchett
A Hat Full of Sky

Chuck Childers, October 21, 2014

This book is the 2nd in the Tiffany Aching series, and reading the first book, Wee Free Men, is highly recommended, although the book will still be enjoyable without it. It's also part of the Discworld series, but no knowledge of that series is necessary.

Recommended ages: 12 and up (tho' I'm guessing the lower value).

A Hat Full of Sky is an absolutely wonderful book that manages to be full of wonder and tinged with cynicism at the same time. As part of the Tiffany Aching series, it's an excellent introduction to Fantasy novels, and it makes excellent use of Tiffany Aching's journey away from home to be tutored as a young witch to provide lessons in growing up and a becoming responsible human being. Highly recommended.

Snuff (Discworld Novels) by Terry Pratchett
Snuff (Discworld Novels)

Chuck Childers, January 30, 2013

As all of Discworld books, this is excellent. While the book can be read on its own, previous Discworld books, particularly any involving Commander Vimes and the City Watch would inform the goings on. Fun, funny and in places a bit sad.

The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
The Little Prince

Chuck Childers, August 4, 2012

This is my go-to book when I'm feeling down or too grown-up. It shows me something new every time and reminds me what's important. If you have someone who needs to experience childhood, someone of any age, I can't help but recommend The Little Prince.
