The Kingdom of Childhood by Rebecca Coleman
The Kingdom of Childhood

Cowgirl, August 4, 2012

This is a contemporary novel set between the past and future with a school at its core and mental illness as its backdrop. One will find themselves rooting for Zach to overcome his adversary. And one will wish that Judy would wise up..but that is where the mental illness saturates this story. This story jumps from the past in Bavaria to the present in the U.S. and will hold the reader enthralled in a story that is so rife in the news today.

The Kingdom of Childhood by Rebecca Coleman

Excellent book written about a little girl grown up as a teacher. She seemingly has everything she could possibly want, but is never happy. She takes a turn for the worse when she comes on to a student she is mentoring. The flashbacks involve Judy's life as a child, so the book moves through periods of time from Bavaria to the US. As her affair becomes more one sided with Zack the decent into insanity becomes apparent. I rooted for Zack as he is a character I came to love; I wanted him to rise above where she had taken him. This book has many layers, many questions and ideas are left dangling to give thought..This in my opinion is one of the best books of 2011.

Nature Girl by Carl Hiaasen
Nature Girl

Cowgirl, October 23, 2010

I was a first time reader of Carl Hiaasen's works. Nature Girl was my first read. This book had me laughing out loud at the funny escapades and the hilarityof his characters. I must also add that his characters are reminiscent of Stephen King's characters---the villians that is...yet even they had me chuckling. For a light-hearted read on a cold winter's night--curl up with Nature Girl; it's a hillarious ride..

This is one funny chic-lit book. I really don't like to put a label on a novel; I don't usually find these types of books to be my cup of tea. But I picked up this book to read as the author I have met and her husband is my son's best friend. And off I took on a hillarious ride between two worlds of twins so opposite from one another that I found myself laughing out loud. If you like a 'play' on Reality TV ( Yes, I like Survivor also, Becky) and a play on real life...well that is how different these twins are. Phoebe tugs at your heart strings as she answers dating matches and then gets a wrong number on her cell phone...Madison (aka Grace) wants to be the "Belle of Georgia" on a Reality TV show...how different and wonderfully put together...if you want a great read that is truly funny...Enjoy...
