I started and finished A Sense of Direction in one evening; I couldn't really stop thinking about it, so I couldn't put it down. I found it...

The description of the oncoming storm in farmland, seacoast and city hardly need the beautiful pictures. A child could just close their eyes and see and feel the approaching storm. This is a great read aloud book, excellent for a third or fourth grade classroom just starting to learn about the water cycle. This is one of the few picture books that I would recommend for children of all ages.
A little girl has common problem that extends across the ages. What to get her mother for her birthday. Of course she has no money and is walking around trying to think of a solution. She runs into Mr. Rabbit who helps her think it through. The story flows with almost the rhythm of a song. The delightful illustrations by Maurice Sendak bring the story together to complete a most delightful picture book package.
This is the story of the Johansen family told from the point of view of ten year old Annemarie. Through her eyes we see how Demark fought the Nazis in their own quiet way. In the 137 pages of this book we grow with Annemarie learning about what it means to be brave and loyal and a true friend. This book should be required reading the year before Anne Frank's story is read.

This is a journey that too many women have taken over the centuries of “civilization”. Laura’s story is set in England during the war with Napoleon. After being sold into marriage to pay off a debt by her own father, Laura thought she had been humiliated enough. But her new husband found more ways to humiliate her. When he was stricken by disease she felt relieved, when he died of it three years latter she felt guilt over her joy. Now a few years later she receives a letter from a younger sister she didn’t even know she had. Finally after waiting three months she opens the letter and decides to go visit her. Now starts a chain of events that teach her what suffering really is and how to endure it gracefully. She learns what love is supposed to be and she learns to stand up for herself and what is right. The tendrils of this story stay with you long after you put the book down.
Born of a goddess and the Prince of Darkness should mean an awesome life for human twins. For Eliot and Fiona life sucks. What fifteen year old wants to wear homemade clothes, be homeschooled and work in a Pizza joint? They live with their grandmother who only expresses herself through the one hundred rules she is raising them by. No one tells them who their parents were except that they died in a car crash shortly after they were born. All they want is to have what they think is a normal life. To go out on dates, have friends over and maybe even go to a real school. Their life is predictable routine, until . . . their fifteenth birthday. And their world changes forever. Their decisions over the next few days will change the fate of two eternal families. The answers to the questions regarding their parents will have unbelievable results leading the twins on life altering paths.
