The Marriage Plot by Jeffrey Eugenides
The Marriage Plot

Daisywoman, January 19, 2012

Jane Austen-read all her books;Jeffrey Eugenides-my new favorite author. He writes more about philosophy, the whys of life, than about meeting and marrying. Cleverly interspersed with a passionate love affair, major and minor characters surprise the reader, reflect on the meaning of life, and move eventually toward a resolution. Nothing is tied up with a girly-girl Victorian bow, yet everything seems cleaner and even obvious in the final pages

Snowdrops by A. D. Miller

Daisywoman, September 20, 2011

Gangstas, Bankers, and living fast...means dying young. A fast-moving ride through the years when Baltic Sea oil gushed, money flowed with it into Russia, and life's flavors were sharp and sometimes sweet. Prize nominee in Europe.
It's a page-turner with a few jolts of insight by the narrator as to who he is based on his choices
