Portland's Goose Hollow (Images of America) by Tracy J. Prince
Portland's Goose Hollow (Images of America)

Dan Haneckow, May 25, 2011

With its meticulous research and an amazing selection of photographs, there is much to recommend in Portland's Goose Hollow for readers interested in Goose Hollow and in Portland as a whole. From rare views of the lost landscape before Tanner Creek was buried and of the Chinese farmers who once lived along its banks, to the vanished grandeur of the North Pacific Exposition Hall, the neighborhood's varied history is revealed page by page. The rediscovered account of how Goose Hollow got its name and anecdotes, such as of the monkeys once kept at amusement grounds atop the cable car line to Portland Heights, are but two of the many fascinating stories contained in the book. Portland's Goose Hollow admirably tells the rich, multifaceted story of one of Portland's most celebrated neighborhoods.
