The Jefferson Key by Steve Berry
The Jefferson Key

Dana Welcker, April 27, 2015

This may have been the fastest I have ever read a book! It had me captivated at the first chapter and I barely put it down until I was finished. I love Steve Berry's books and this one did not disappoint! I have always been fascinated by pirates and the way Steve intertwined pirates into modern times while also including Congressional and Presidential history was masterful.

The House of Seven Gables (Classic Collection) by Nathaniel Hawthorne
The House of Seven Gables (Classic Collection)

Dana Welcker, April 22, 2015

I started reading this book to see how similar it was to the movie with Vincent Price. While I love Vincent Price there were surprisingly few similarities. The book was captivating and now it I am confused why a true to book movie has not been made, that I am aware of. The characters were vividly described in dress and emotion. Certain family historical events were withheld until the end keeping me engaged and wondering. I found myself distressed at times and later elated. I am glad I took the time to read the book and not rely on the movie.

As expected Steve grabs your attention within the first 5 pages of this book! There is so much Chinese history packed inside it is amazing how easy it is to read and how gripping! The plot moves quickly and makes it impossible to put down, this may be the fastest book I have ever read.

The Raven (Visions in Poetry) by Edgar Allan Poe
The Raven (Visions in Poetry)

Dana Welcker, October 22, 2014

Poe is definately one of my favorite authors and the Raven is my favorite poem! I never get tired of hearing it or reciting it. Many Poe stories and poems have morals to the story or points which invoke a great deal of reflection. They are not just scary stories.

Death of a Witch (Hamish Macbeth Mysteries) by Mc Beaton
Death of a Witch (Hamish Macbeth Mysteries)

Dana Welcker, October 22, 2014

I haven't read an MC Beaton book I didn't like but Hamish is definately my favorite detective. The book is so descriptive it is easy to put yourself in the middle of the town. The books do not need to be read in order to know the repeating characters. You will feel like you know them all!
