An update of his previous book on the same subject matter, with new recipes and updated ingredient availability and ordering information. This book is both useful for making drinks and is enjoyable to simply read. Good strong binding and quality paper make it able to hold up to kitchen mishaps.
The book adds little that other biographies have already done. It is a good summary but if one has already read any of the other books on Sammy Davis Jr. this one is far from essential.
The book sheds light on much of his business dealings, including his ties with various organized crime schemes. It also attempts to show a darker side of the man only hinted at or glossed over in other biographies. It does this however by focusing on the actions of a lawyer representing his wife's interest in the estate. By using this approach the book often lapses into multiple pages of information irrelevant to Sammy Davis, focusing on the lawyers troubled relationship with his father. By using unnamed sources and innuendo the book fails to give reliable insight into the man.

This book is a nice overview and summation of his multiple cook and cocktail books. It focuses are on recipes that have easier to locate ingredients and may be more suited to the modern palate than some of his other recipes. This also shows some of the books weakness, quotes taken out of context from Vic himself and a lack of depth to some of the recipes. If you are going to buy one Trader Vic recipe book, this is the one to get, otherwise this book is not essential.
