Creative Embellishments: For Paper, Jewelry, Fabric and More by Sherrill Kahn
Creative Embellishments: For Paper, Jewelry, Fabric and More

DeBorah Beatty, April 7, 2013

Sherril Kahn is brilliant when it comes to embellishments. I've been following her work for many years and have never been disappointed by any of the books she's brought out. Tons of eye candy and well-written instructions will inspire anyone to try her methods.

Complex Cloth: A Comprehensive Guide to Surface Design by Jane Dunnewold
Complex Cloth: A Comprehensive Guide to Surface Design

DeBorah Beatty, August 4, 2012

This is the book that has launched a thousand passions. Complex cloth or art cloth is fabric that has been dyed, painted, distressed, discharged or bleached, beaded, printed, or otherwise embellished and then hung up for all to see and enjoy. Proof that just as with a mixed media painting, it's the artist's voice, not what they chosen to express it that matters.

Until Jane Dunnewold, the concept of a single piece of cloth being a piece of art was relatively unknown. Jane takes you through each process she uses with careful details, great pictures and a commentary of what to expect and how to layer one process on top of another.

This is without a doubt my favorite surface design book.

Create Your Own Hand-Printed Cloth: Stamp, Screen, and Stencil with Everyday Objects by Rayna Gillman
Create Your Own Hand-Printed Cloth: Stamp, Screen, and Stencil with Everyday Objects

DeBorah Beatty, July 14, 2012

Rayna Gillman is one of those people who has an eye for color and puts some of the most mismatched bits together and they always turn out amazing. She explains how to do each step fully and simply making the journey as fun as the discovery when you get to the end result.

I've followed Rayna's work for years and have both her books. All I can say is more, please?
