A brilliant follow up to "Sea of Poppies". The language sweeps you up into historical Canton immediately prior to the Opium War between China and England in mid 19th century. I am looking forward to third book in this trilogy very much.
This is a wonderful debut novel. A detective/spy thriller that poetically and partially illuminates a dark corner of the of the world, North Korea. It is a combination of Ross Macdonald and Alan Furst. "Kimche Noir" wonderfully written. I look forward to future encounters with James Church's Inspector O.
