The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business by Charles Duhigg
The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business

Dorene, January 2, 2013

An interesting and fun to read look at how we form habits and how we can change them. The author is an investigative reporter and he brings his analytical reporter's eye to the patterns that people, organizations and societies pursue without conscious intent.

Confessions of a Teen Sleuth: A Parody by Chelsea Cain
Confessions of a Teen Sleuth: A Parody

Dorene, October 5, 2010

Hilarious parody in the form of a memoir of Nancy Drew. Her roommate at Vassar, Carolyn Keene, stole Nancy's stories and got a lot of the details wrong so here Nancy sets the story straight, and also explains what happened after. Did she marry Ned? What were the Hardy boys really like? Who secretly hated Bess? Why did Nurse Cherry Ames have a vendetta against Nancy? The appearance of other fictional teen sleuths adds to the farce and makes for a quick, fun read.

Ten Poems to Open Your Heart by Roger Housden
Ten Poems to Open Your Heart

Dorene, May 14, 2008

This is a life-changing read. The ten poems focus not only on romantic love but also on the concept of love for humanity. The poems speak directly to your heart and Housden's essays following the poems add to the enjoyment. Great poetry, he says, "is a bridge between our heart and the heart of the world" that allows us to forget ourselves and let the world pour in.
