The Battlefield Where the Moon Says I Love You by Frank Stanford
The Battlefield Where the Moon Says I Love You

EZEebs, February 5, 2008

This 15000 line stream-of-consciousness poem contains no punctuation and no paragraphs. I have perhaps never been more intimidated by a work of literature and it took me about 80 hours to read, so it's not for the faint of heart. It's also the among the best works I've ever read. The text drifts in and out of the macabre mind of a twelve-year-old boy, with the snatches of plot revolving his interactions with adults. Gristly at times, sexual, certainly, and some of the darkest thoughts I've ever heard are deep within the world written, as the author described, "with self involution and dreamlike continuity". If you have the heart and can find a copy, you should read it without question.
