Nudge: Improving Decisions about Health, Wealth, and Happiness by Richard H. Thaler and Cass R. Sunstein
Nudge: Improving Decisions about Health, Wealth, and Happiness

Elena Adamo, May 25, 2013

Fascinating from the first few pages! This book sucks you in with offbeat examples that had me striking up conversations with everyone I came into contact with. It was practical too! Many of us have responsibilities in our work and home lives that require us to assist others in making decisions. This book lays out some of the ways that we do that so that we can be more conscientious and effective at it.

The Commitment: Love, Sex, Marriage, and My Family by Dan Savage
The Commitment: Love, Sex, Marriage, and My Family

Elena Adamo, May 25, 2013

A fantastically well written story that had me laughing out loud consistently. It was witty and interesting with plenty of side-bar political commentary. This hilarious book tells the story of the author and his family making the decision of how to celebrate their love and make a commitment to one another in an age where their partnership cannot be legally recognized on this country.

The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down: A Hmong Child, Her American Doctors, and the Collision of Two Cultures

A must read for physicians and their patients. A provocative and educational look at the interaction of western medical culture with that of the shamans and spiritual animism of the Hmong.

American Gods: Author's Preferred Text by Neil Gaiman
American Gods: Author's Preferred Text

This is a darkly funny, incredibly well written tale of ancient gods living in the modern world. The hero, a god's son and recently widowed ex-convict, interacts with a world he never knew existed and conquers challenges he never could have imagined.
