The New Moosewood Cookbook (Mollie Katzen's Classic Cooking)

Emma, March 13, 2007

Any cookbook writer who can keep a busy parent and professional up and smiling while making vegetarian chili at 2 a.m. deserves a medal. Mollie Katzen is that writer: her recipes are smart, accessible, and truly humorous. Whether you're looking to feed a small army or impress an intimate gathering, the Moosewood cookbooks are the right way to entertain with deliciously satisfying vegetarian fare.

Homeopathic Medicine at Home by Maesimund Panos
Homeopathic Medicine at Home

Emma, March 13, 2007

As natural, "alternative" treatments to common medical ailments become more widely accepted in the United States so, too, this important resource should experience a revitalization in popularity. I've been turning to it since its first print date in 1980, with the birth of my first child. From the irritability of croup and teething to skin problems and asthma, homeopathy has been a wonderful boon for our family. Now rearing my fourth child, I have firmer confidence than ever in homeopathy, and in the simple explanations and tables provided here.

The Gifts of the Body by Rebecca Brown
The Gifts of the Body

Emma, March 13, 2007

The gauze of sheer humanity in which Rebecca Brown wraps her readers is far more than poignancy: each of the characters in these short fictions becomes achingly palpable. For anyone who has provided care for the terminally ill; any of us who has suffered loss to disease; and everyone prepared for a massage of the heart while holding finely-wrought tales of mortality, this book is essential reading.
