What amazes me most about The Great Gatsby is how timeless it is. When I read it, I was prepared for a story steeped in Art Deco, flappers, prohibition, etc. but instead I read a book that could have been written yesterday.
The characters in The Great Gatsby are amazing and the story is one with which we can all connect in one way or another. Really, folks, this may be the greatest American novel. Give it a shot. It's very short so you have only an evening or two to lose.
