Upper Level Disturbances (Mountain West Poetry) by Kevin Goodan
Upper Level Disturbances (Mountain West Poetry)

Erin Hollowell, August 8, 2012

Goodan's poems set the page on fire with images of blood, forest fires, and bleak back meadows. They open outward from physical objects, expanding past emotion into the world of what is only part graspable, part knowable. His command of language and syntax is nearly unmatched, words like knurled and torque, hyphenates such thorn-riven and dead-furrow. These are not poems to be read once and filed on a shelf; rather, pick up this book again and again when you lose hope that poetry continues to speak to us, these poems offer us something to cling to that is not quite a belief in goodness but rather a belief in belief itself.
