Womenopause: Stop Pausing and Start Living by Lovera Wolf Miller
Womenopause: Stop Pausing and Start Living

Florida Reader, March 11, 2010

I received a copy of this book from Ascot Media, and I am glad I had the opportunity to read it! The mere sound of the word “menopause” strikes fear in most women and also many men - albeit for entirely different reasons! Even the most self-assured woman anticipates it with sheer dread, conjuring up visions of decline and demise, and men fear not knowing how to handle the changes in their partner – or deal with the ‘stranger’ that seems to have taken over their partner’s body!

Six thousand American women reach menopause every single day, This book exposes all the hype, marketing, and ill-informed opinions on this sensitive subject that, including peri-menopause and post-menopause, encompasses more than half of a woman’s lifetime. This book is like a menopause makeover that covers everything from hormones and hot flashes, brain and bone preservation, breast health, skin, fitness, food, sleep, sex and more. It presents a clear, fresh voice in the controversy of hormone therapy for menopausal symptoms, and offers solutions that are imbued with a confident enthusiasm that emanates from years of success.

Who on Earth Was Jesus?: The Modern Quest for the Jesus of History by David Boulton
Who on Earth Was Jesus?: The Modern Quest for the Jesus of History

Florida Reader, February 15, 2010

I always wondered if Jesus was like a more ‘regular guy’ before he became the divine Christ of faith? One man has taken on this challenge and written a one-volume, engrossing account on this often-controversial subject that has been the center of debates between contemporary scholars for years. If my research is correct this is the first one volume text since Albert Schweitzer’s a century ago. In this book, the author David Boulton cuts through the mystery and hype and goes straight to the meat of the issues: the result, a book that is the most comprehensive study to date.

Everyone has a different opinion on this subject. This is evidenced by the countless books that have been written – everything from Christians writing about the Christ of faith to books by atheists proposing Jesus is a myth, or those proposing a married or gay Jesus. What really makes this book different is the fact that Boluton’s informative and well-researched approach incorporates the actual experiences gained by serious scholars throughout history, delving into theories and conclusions of all the main competing schools of historical Jesus scholarship.
I read this book because of the enthusiastic suggestion by a fellow member of my book club. I am so glad I took the leap and read this volume, try it for yourself.

Something You Forgot...Along the Way: Stories of Wisdom and Learning by Kentetsu Takamori
Something You Forgot...Along the Way: Stories of Wisdom and Learning

Florida Reader, August 29, 2009

Something You Forgot…Along the Way: Stories of Wisdom and Learning will draw the reader in with its direct and unapologetic message. Takamori guides the reader like a beacon toward doing better and becoming better. A sense of goodwill and sincerity In his new book, Something You Forgot…Along the Way, Buddhist teacher Kentetsu Takamori relates 65 short stories that bring his philosophy, what we have is not ours forever, to life. He cautions us that nothing is permanent.“Once this reality sinks in,” Takamori says, “we cannot help treasuring each moment of our association.”
The 65 stories focus on such basics as the importance of perseverance, the real meaning of honor, and how success is not gained by chance, but by the fruit of our efforts. The stories aim to give guidance and help the reader see deeper into life. The depth of his thought is belied by the simplicity of his prose. He writes with a clarity that is accessible to children but profound enough to stir adults. The lesson of each story is honest, the frankness unforgettable. Opened at any page, radiates from the pages. Just as the title suggests, as I was reading, I felt as if I was receiving one bouquet of flowers after another. I also felt that the book gave me increased confidence about going forward in my life in a positive way.

Tarizon #01: The Liberator by William Manchee
Tarizon #01: The Liberator

Florida Reader, January 28, 2009

The first in novelist William Manchee’s exciting Tarizon Trilogy, begins after a series of super volcanic eruptions nearly destroys all life on planet Tarizon. The planet is slowly recovering ecologically but the political situation is volatile. The fight is between the Purists who want to rid Tarizon of a growing mutant population and eliminate all non-human intelligent life-forms, and the Loyalists who want to restore the Supreme Mandate that guarantees freedom and basic rights for all humans and other beings. Much to his dismay, Peter learns that many on Tarizon regard him as the Liberator and expect him to lead a revolution to settle the political unrest.

Departing from his typical mystery writing, Manchee explores new territory with The Tarizon Trilogy. He presents a storyline that is a must read for the young adult science fiction audience, as well as older readers who yearn for action-packed thrillers. Through exciting characters, fitting dialog and an engaging storyline, Manchee has created a fascinating story that offers sci-fi fans everything they could want.
Both my teenager and myself read this book and enjoyed it. Great for a family "read" and communication between the generations. The teenagers at my house enjoyed it, and it created many discussions!!
