The Monster of Florence: A True Story by Douglas J. Preston and Mario Spezi
The Monster of Florence: A True Story

GOreader, September 4, 2011

I was struck, while reading this book, about how different criminal justice is handled in Italy. While our system certainly has it's flaws, I find myself particularly grateful to live here where appeals can be filed immediately upon conviction rather than years later and where there is some form of prosecutorial oversite. The book leaves me wondering if this the norm in Italy or an abberation. A very interesting read!

Cold Vengeance: An Agent Pendergast Novel by Lincoln Child
Cold Vengeance: An Agent Pendergast Novel

GOreader, September 4, 2011

I enjoyed this novel primarily due to the character development. Pendergast isn't the perfect cold clinical detective here. He's emotional, at times frantic and a bit out of control. This is a real change for his character and I'm looking forward to seeing where Preston and Child take him. It was also nice to have Corrie back in a story. While frustratingly short, it's still a good read.
