The Given Day is Lehane's best book to date and I had a hard time putting it down. He provides a lot of history with this work of fiction and it's an excellent read for anyone who's interested in reading about America in the early Twentieth Century.

This is the final book in a series of the history of 20th century Ireland, but it's excellent as a stand-alone read if you're interested in what's happening there today and why and how it's come about. An excellent book to finish out an excellent series.
This is an excellent book for anyone who enjoys food, travel, football, challenges, and/or a really good story. It made me want to pack my bags and head off to Italy (for the food, not the football).

Many of us who are concerned about current efforts to overturn Roe v Wade talk about the bad old days of back alley abortionists and coathangers. The Girls Who Went Away are frequently forgotten. This sound like an excellent book on a subject that needs to be discussed. I knew girls who "went away" and suffered throughout their lives over the child they gave up. I believe these stories are going to remind us all of someone we knew.
This is an excellent book for girls (and women too, for that matter). We don't learn much about heroic women in school and this book provides interesting and detailed information about eight of them.
