Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (and Other Concerns) by Mindy Kaling
Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (and Other Concerns)

Glynis, January 12, 2015

Mindy Kaling's voice is hilarious, endearing, and instantly relatable. The book covers everything from childhood humiliation to what to look for in an adult relationship. For the length of it, Kaling will make you laugh out loud. The book itself is a short and easy read. The anecdotes will not necessarily change your perspective on life, however, the book is a pleasant and worthwhile way to spend an afternoon.

Outlander (Outlander) by Diana Gabaldon
Outlander (Outlander)

Glynis, January 12, 2015

Outlander is a fast-paced and enticing novel. The story transports the reader between 1945 and 1743 Scotland, making it immediately engaging for anyone with a passion for history or an appreciation for Scottish culture. The feminine protagonist is strong, intelligent, and a respectable heroine. The cast of characters, conflict between the English and the
Scottish, druid folklore, and romance can entertain nearly any reader.

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close: A Novel by Jonathan Safran Foer
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close: A Novel

Glynis, January 12, 2015

This quickly became one of my favorite books. Foer writes in an unconventional style, combining words and images. The result is that this book will impact you deeply on an emotional level. The protagonist, Oscar, is a clever, witty child whose journey reminds you to always be searching for new perspective. The story is engaging - forcing you to laugh out loud, then cry, then laugh again. A must read.

The Signature of All Things by Elizabeth Gilbert
The Signature of All Things

Glynis, January 12, 2015

The Signature of All Things is a beautiful written, intelligent book. Gilbert writes to both the scientific and the spiritual minds. The story follows Alma Whittaker as she grows up with a firm love for botany and the study of bryozoa. The novel encourages you to explore the beauty in nature.
