If you're patient, parts of this book will make it worth your while. Though, the painfully simple sentence structure dominating the first half will tempt you to give up altogether. For those who hang in there, both the sentences and the plot become steadily more complex, culminating about two thirds of the way through before the book ends in a very low key fashion. Drury's realistic portrait of farm life in the Midwest is, by far, the strongest element of this piece.
