The Ranks of Jody Brae by Jonathan Michael Cullen
The Ranks of Jody Brae

Happywarrior, April 10, 2010

Jonathan Cullen is a better story teller than a writer. While his writting is good enough to get the story out -- and a great story it is -- it is unlikely he will ever be a literary great, just solid. I really liked this story, I like mysteries, I love Boston as a setting and I am a fan of the sixties and the various movements of the time. I would really recommend this book for that reason. There are some nice complexities and I believe the characters while a bit shallow have enough appeal to keep the story moving and draw the reader in.

Harborside Kings by Justin Wissman
Harborside Kings

Happywarrior, April 10, 2010

I love finding new writers who are worthy of note and Justin Wissman is just such a novelist. While Harborside Kings is a first novel and suffers from some of the usual first novel stuff, it is clear that Wissman is a skilled and compelling writer and that makes this a must read. You will want to be able to say your one of his first fans! THis is a wonderfully visual and moving novel.
