Untie the Strong Woman: Blessed Mother's Immaculate Love for the Wild Soul by Clarissa Pinkola Estes
Untie the Strong Woman: Blessed Mother's Immaculate Love for the Wild Soul

Harper Robbins, December 12, 2014

A marvelous book by a master storyteller! I am a huge fan of CPE but knew little about Catholicism or the mythology of Mary until reading this. Recommended for anyone with a spiritual interest in this beloved icon, regardless of religious affiliation or lack thereof. Buying copies for Catholic friends for Christmas!

Joseph Anton: A Memoir by Salman Rushdie
Joseph Anton: A Memoir

Harper Robbins, October 23, 2013

I read "Joseph Anton" because Mr. Rushdie was coming to town to lecture. I was slightly intimidated by the length and the topic, and feared it would be dull or at least dense. But he had me riveted until the last page, in spite of his assurance at the lecture that "I don't want to spoil the ending, but the guy lives." He was funny and self-deprecating and honest, and I enjoyed the book and his lecture very much. I now have "Haroun and the Sea of Stories", and moving on to "Midnight's Children" after that.
